Our opinion: -
Westfield Outdoors is a large German company that are renowned throughout Europe for the quality of their products.
Available in a Low (for vans 180 to 210cm), Medium (for vans 210 to 245) & High top version (for Vans 240 to 280cm High). The Fabric is also upgraded from Westfields Hydrotech SL fabric in 2017 to there New HydroDore SL fabric . They have also improved the anti-weather system to give the awning better weather protection.
A good quality Air framed driveaway-awning with many features not found on some of the other manufacturers products. Metal rings used on the guy line attachment points, quick release buckle with swivels on the storm straps, slide lock guy line runners, quality fabrics and stitching are just some of the features that persuaded us to stock these awning for the 3nd Year.
So far this year the Hydra 300 have been our best selling Air frame driveaway awnings. excellent value for money & Good quality, the New 2018 Model has a price increase over the 2017 model, but with the better fit to the vehicle due to the decreased height range and other refinement there is some justification for the price hike.

What the manufacturer says:-
The use of the superb HydroDore SL fabric means that this is extremely lightweight, making it even easier to carry, store, use and erect. It is also quick to dry and U.V. coated to help prevent damage from the sun and prolong the life of the awning. The addition of the door in the tunnel allows you to enter and exit the awning without walking though the main awning, perfect when you have muddy boots and coats. The fully tubbed groundsheet is great at keeping the weather out, but with the added peg down doorways you can also remove those annoying trip hazards when the doors are in use.
An advanced lightweight 75D with a high performance U.V. coating. The coating gives the material extra protection against the harmful suns U.V. rays and extends the life of your awning and gives you a high level of water protection.
The material is extremely lightweight making it easy to handle, fold and packs away to a small size. It is fast drying as it does not soak up the rain and is easy to clean.
Air Erect System
The Air Erect System (AES) is a latest generation, easy to use, simplified air erect system. It is simplified to make it easier to use and less to go wrong. The system uses 4 layers for strength and stability. It has the internal bladder which is the part that you inflate. You then have a dual layer protective cover that has a PE and polyester covers bonded together, that adds protection and increases stability. The PE layer of the protective cover is also reinforced at the stress points giving it extra strength and stability. You then have a sleeve which is sewn into the awning which adds a final layer of protection and stability. This not only improves the protection you get from the PC cover, but also the stability of the awning as the tube is held in place and position better. The Air Erect System has individual air tubes rather than a joined system which makes each tube extremely easy to pump up and in the event of a failure only one tube is affected. It also uses an easy to use single way valve for inflation which is simplicity itself, simply push the pump in and pump.
The anti-weather system is not one item but a host of improvements and updates that gives the awning better weather protection. There are additional weather panels sewn into the canvas at points where the weather could get in. This panel is P.U. coated on both sides and taped on both sides giving you better weather protection. There is additional guttering on external windows with zips, which add extra protection against the rain. All tie back points or pockets that are sewn in are made from 100% waterproof PVC rather than standard webbing material. Standard material can soak water up and eventually lead to leaks, the waterproof PVC simply does not.

I took delivery of this Campervan awning to be used with my 1992 Talbot Avalon camper, and wasted no time putting it to use on a trip to Donegal. Initial impressions are very good, unboxed it comes in a large holdall type carrier, with draw straps to neaten it and keep it tidy while in transit, making packing up the awning and all the other accessories very easy (even if in a hurry), so that itself is a big bonus in my view, as far too often once you unpack these largish items you cannot easily get them to fit back into their provided bags. Setting up is easy, the Hydra 300 comes with its own pump, that is quick and easy to use to get the Air beams inflated, (I also have a 12v pump but would recommend just using the supplied pump), a dozen pumps or so and its fully inflated and holding its shape, ready to be moved and attached to the van, this is also exceptionally easy and various methods of attachments are available to utilise. You can use the beading if you have an awning rail fitted to your van, it comes with two sizes of beading to use (very useful), and a pole you can attach to the guttering rail of your van and use clamps (not supplied) to attach as a drive away option, or you can use the over the top tennis ball and guy rope method, I utilised all of these methods and all worked exceptionally well. The van is easy to beg out and comes supplied with all you will need to achieve this, once this has been done you will find the Hydra 300 to be a sturdy and roomy awning of nice size and great quality. Taking the awning down is simple just undo the air valves and let the air escape, and unpeg then fit it back into its large adjustable holdall bag. 5 -10 mins will set this awning up, and 5 mins will see it packed away no problems at all. To summaries, all I can say is given a 5 day trip in various locations and conditions this awning has impressed me, and opened my eyes to the simplicity of Air type awnings, no messing about, love the colour scheme too, nice and cool on a sunny day with plenty of ventilation and vision options, great construction quality (Westfield are a German made) I’d highly recommend this awning to anyone with a similar van setup. You won’t be disappointed with this purchase
